It seems succulents are all the rage in recent news.  From glass gardens suspending from ceilings, to carefully crafted arrangements and delicate indoor micro gardens.  Everyone wants to get their hands on these beautiful, yet hardy plants.  Did you know that succulents are also drought resistant which makes them a perfect candidate for Xeriscaping?

What is Xeriscaping?

Xeriscaping with Succulents: Types to Use

Below we’ve listed a variety of succulents that will not only add water-efficiency to your yard but will add a splash of color as well!

  • Agave – this classic comes in a variety of colors and patterns.  Ranging from bright greens to deep dramatic purple.
  • Sedum – this low, ground covering succulent is a popular garden filler.  It’s short leaves range from yellow, bright and medium greens and cool blue hues.  When conditions are right they grow tiny flowers that are either yellow, cream or white.
  • Ice Plant – this beauty is bound to be a show stopper.  It can come in a large variety of greens and under the correct conditions it will flower.  The blooms can range from yellows, reds and pinks.
  • Sempervivum (Hen and Chicks) – another classic this is succulent is a proven crowd pleaser.  With it’s multi tiered shape it provides an interesting texture to your landscape, in addition it also comes in a large variety of color combinations.
